TEAMS

All boys and girls who attend or are eligible to attend either Midland, Meridian, Bullock Creek, Coleman, Clare, Harrison or Freeland schools are eligible for participation in the MAYFL. Students attending neighboring school districts may be allowed to participate at the discretion of the MAYFL Board.

Teams are formed using the following general guidelines. (Refer to the League Bylaws for specific details.)

Team Composition – Prep Division

Prep division teams are grouped by elementary school area. In many cases, multiple elementary school areas will be combined to provide adequate team size.

Team Composition – Junior Division

Like the prep division, junior division teams are grouped by elementary school area, even though older members of the team may attend middle school. During registration, we ask for the elementary school attended (or the elementary school area in which you live if you have moved) to help us form teams.

Team Composition – Senior Division

Because the Midland Public Schools middle school sports system differs from other schools in the county, we have faced challenges in the past creating competitive, balanced teams based strictly on school-aligned teams. As a result, senior division teams are now created by random draw (with draw by age/weight categories).

Exceptions

Refer to the League Bylaws for exceptions to the above rules for parochial, school-of-choice and home-school students.

The MAYFL does not grant exceptions to team placement for preference to play for another school area, a specific coach, or with a friend at another school. Specific situations should be addressed to the MAYFL board for consideration.
